Human Rights Committee

AFGE's Human Rights Committee (HRC) is comprised of 12 elected National Women's Advisory Coordinators (NWAC) and 12 elected National Fair Practices Affirmative Action Coordinators (NFPAAC). In 1998, the HRC wrote a vision and mission statement including goals, values and structure. Although the Committee has existed for more than two decades, this was the first formal plan of operation. The statement of vision signed at the 1999 Human Rights Training Conference by the Women's & Fair Practices National Vice President and the HRC, said in part: "HRC envisions a future where there is justice, diversity and harmony with equality and respect for all." Furthermore, the document emphasized that "HRC values all persons as individuals. We seek to educate, assist and empower our members in achieving justice, diversity, equality and harmony." Moreover, the promises and values of the HRC show the group's commitment "to respecting each other's sense of values and diversities. We will fulfill our role as the Human Rights Committee. We will trust and respect each other, keep our promises, complete our assignments and keep open lines of communication with each other and our members."
